Use this worksheet to identify the goals, audiences, key points, evidence, and calls to action you will want to address on your website.

  • Determine goals for your website. What do you want to accomplish?

  • Who are the potential audiences you want to reach? How do those groups impact your goals?

  • What do you want viewers to think after viewing your website and how do they relate to the goals you identified?
    • List each key idea you want the viewer to have and map it to one or more of the goals

  • What information can you use to influence a viewer to think about the department the way you want them to? List supporting information for each key idea.
  • What is the call to action? Now that you've influenced the viewer to care, what can they do about it? What action can they take? Example calls to action are "Apply today", "Schedule an appointment", "Check your transfer credit", "Contact your advisor".

  • Now arrange the information you’ve identified as follows:
    • Goal 1
      • Key Idea 1
        • Supporting Info 1
        • Supporting Info 2
      • Key Idea 2
        • Supporting Info 1
        • Supporting Info 2
      • Call to Action
    • Goal 2
      • Key Idea 1
        • Supporting Info 1
        • Supporting Info 2
      • Key Idea 2
        • Supporting Info 1
        • Supporting Info 2
      • Call to Action

    • And so on until you have mapped all goals, key ideas, and supporting information

Once you have created your outline, use the tips from Writing for the Web I to write new text for your website.
